All purebred dogs began by crossbreeding dogs of two or more different breeds to achieve desirable traits. Dogs displaying those traits were bred to each other to continue to breed development. This is been going on for many years. The development of the Australian Labradoodle is no different. In the late 1980’s the first Labradoodle was created by combining a lab with a poodle in an attempt to achieve a more allergy friendly guide dog. Forward thinking breeders in Australia begin breeding these Labradoodles to a number of other dog breeds in an effort to produce litters with consistent confirmation, coat type, and temperament. Most often the English cocker spaniel, and American cocker spaniel were the breeds used with the Labradoodle, however, it is reported that a few other dog breeds were also introduced into certain early lines. It is a combination of all these breeds that make up what we call the Australian Labradoodle today.
Currently there are three size ranges of the breeds, define by measuring from the ground to the weather, the highest point on the dogs, shoulder blades.
The Australian Labradoodles can have either fleece or wool coat types. Fleece coats may be wavy or curly, while wool coats are curly.
They come in a variety of colors and patterns:
Black pigmented dogs are: Chalk, Cream, Apricot, Gold, Red, Black, Blue, and Silver.
Brown pigment to dogs are: Caramel Ice, Caramel Cream, Caramel, Caramel Red, Red, Chocolate, Lavender, Café, and Parchment.
The patterns are: Parti, Tuxedo, Sable, Phantom, Tri Phantom, and Merle.
Australian Labradoodles are extremely clever, sociable, comical, and joyful. They are energetic when free and quiet when handled. They approach people in a happy and friendly manner. They are smart and easy to train. They have an intuition about family members or handler’s current emotional state or needs. This ability to “know” is what has made the Australian Labradoodle an excellent dog for individuals with special needs.
Australian Labradoodles are known to be very intelligent and are one of the more popular breeds for families. Providence Labradoodles pups have playful, gentle, and calm temperaments meaning they would be a great addition to any family with children. Our puppies are all-around happy dogs that just love to be around their families. Many of our puppies have been placed into families with special needs and are now trained as service and therapy dogs.

Fairytale Lane's Atlas
Raya and Atlas had their first litter October 17. To say this litter is beautiful is an understatement! We choose to breed Raya, our F1 Mini Bernedoodle with Atlas, our multi-generation Australian Labradoodle. Birdie had this little miracle on May 16, 2023. He was born by c-section after our vet thought he did not hear a heartbeat on his ultrasound Tuesday morning. Devestated we left her to have the c-section to be surprised by a call from the vet assistant that Birdie indeed had a beautiful and healthy baby boy! We named him "Zebadee", the English version of the Hebrew name Zebadiah, meaning "Gift from God". We are calling him "Zeb" for short! Zeb will be a medium sized boy, between 35-45 lbs. His coat will be wavy fleece , and so beautiful! We LOVE his markings, especially the heart on his head!!!
